A road dedicated to St. Camillus in the city of Ouagadougou was inaugurated on 8 September. The city council of Ouagadougou wanted to name after the great saint of charity a road near to the medical centre, a road that has witnessed over the last fifty years, hundreds or perhaps hundreds of thousands of sick people going to the medical centre that is managed by the Camillians to receive comfort and treatment for their infirmities. Fr. Laurent Zoungrana was also present at the ceremony.

KENYA: THE CAMILLIANS CELEBRATE THE FORTIETH ANNIVERSARY OF THEIR FOUNDATION
It is natural that Tabaka should have been the place where the Camillians of Kenya celebrated the fortieth anniversary of their arrival in the country. Even though the Camillians are by now present in various other localities, Tabaka always comes to mind when reference is made to our mission in this African country of East Africa. It is no accident that an article of 2003 published in the review Misssione Salute (‘Mission Health’) defined Tabaka as ‘the firstborn’.
The date 15 August 1976 has been established as the official day of the foundation, even though various Ministers of the Sick of the then Province of Lombardy and Veneto had already set foot in Tabaka for varying periods of time to explore the terrain for the establishment of our work. This terrain was in fact a hospital that had already been built a few years previously by the German Misereor in the parish area of Tabaka, in the diocese of Kisii. This is not the place to go over its history, piece by piece, starting with the long negotiations between Monsignor Ercole Brocchieri (of the diocese of Cremona) and Fr. Forsenio Vezzani (of the Province of Lombardy and Veneto). The details of it can be read in the easy-to-read book by Fr. Giovanni Bonaldi, I Camilliani in Kenya da 25 anni (‘The Camillians in Kenya for Twenty-five Years’, Verona, 2001).

One of the most touching moments of the second day of the visit of Pope Francis to Georgia was the meeting with those who are helped by the works of charity of the Catholic Church and with those who work in these works. The Supreme Pontiff visited the Redemptor hominis care centre of the Camillians where he was welcomed by the director of the institute and the director of Caritas Georgia.

On 29 November at the College of Architects of Madrid an award-giving ceremony was held of the seventh edition of the CASER Foundation. This was a moving, intimate and enthusiastic ceremony for initiatives that improve the quality of life of people who are dependent and for all citizens.
At this edition of the awards of the CASER Foundation, the prize for excellence was awarded to the St. Camillus Centre for ‘understanding care as an art’. Brother Jose Carlos Bermejo, the General Delegate of the Province of Spain, received this prize and encouraged those who were present to maintain high levels of quality of care for elderly people and for people near the end of their lives.

A CAMILLIAN ICONOGRAPHIC CURIOSITY
When preparing for the ‘Four Hundredth Anniversary of the Transit of St. Fr. Camillus’ of 14 July 2014, and carrying out intense research in our archives after the rediscovery of evidence relating in particular to famous musical pieces performed in our churches, luck had it that I came across a little yellowed picture printed in Paris which bore the caption ‘Christ on the Crucifix Comforts Father Camillus’, with the following text ‘in calce’: ‘C. Maratti pinxit\A.W. Schulgen Edit du St Siege.\Paris 25 rue St. Sulpice’. READ HERE
